At the age twenty she made her debut in the film Campfire Stones. Her other roles in include Jekyll This Means War and Chasing Mavericks. The part she played as a character in Beautiful Now earned her a nomination for the Madrid International Film Festival Award. The film starred her as Lucy Preston the history professor in Timeless. Spencer has received positive reviews from critics about her performance in the sci-fi television series Timeless. She has also been nominated for a Teen Choice Award.
